Summary - A story about a man who was accused of stealing from his sweetheart's father.

A story about a widow's son, Niall, who was courting a farmer's daughter called Màiri. He was employed by her father. There was another man, Ruairidh, who had his eye on Màiri as well. Màiri's brother Iain was in debt to Ruairidh, so Ruairidh told him to steal money from his father and hide it in Niall's chest. When the money was found, Niall left the farm and went to sea. The letters he sent Màiri were intercepted. She had promised not to marry anyone else as long as she knew that he was alive, but after years without word from him, she agreed to marry Ruairidh. On the day of the wedding, a ship was wrecked on the coast. Those gathered could see a man trying to swim to shore. They went to help him and discovered that it was Niall. Màiri rejected Ruairidh and his scheme was discovered.
