Summary - Pipe Major Robert Nicol's piping background.

Pipe Major Nicol relates how he started learning piping when he was seven years old. His mother was a Gaelic speaker from Knoydart so he had a piping background. Pipe Major MacKellar was his first tutor. He went to John MacDonald in 1927. Both he and Robert Brown were pipe majors in the Gordons. He goes on to describe John MacDonald's teaching methods and personality. He was a hard taskmaster but both Nicol and Brown considered themselves fortunate to be taught by someone with so much knowledge and experience.
