Summary - A brief history of the Scottish Gaelic Texts Society.

Scottish Gaelic Texts Society president Professor Derick Thomson gives a brief account of the society's history. It was established in 1934 as the result of a proposal moved by Professor William Watson. He felt it was important that proper editions of the works of the Gaelic poets and manuscripts were available. It was Professor Watson who edited the first volume published by the society. Professor Thomson mentions two new volumes which are due for publication soon; 'Tuath is Tighearna' by Professor Donald Meek and a book edited by Professor Thomson on the poetry of Alexander MacDonald (Alasdair mac Mhaighstir Alasdair). He also mentions the society's membership and makes it clear that anyone interested in joining the society would be warmly welcomed.
